From Ferdinand von Mueller to the Société Impériale des Naturalistes de Moscou   [Sep 1876]

[Baron Ferdinand Müller of Melbourne calls the attention of the Society to the fact that the priority of the denomination of the genus Waldheimia of Karelin and Kirilow, as given already in 1842, must be preserved to this plant although later, in their genera plantarum, Messrs. Bentham and Hooker have allotted the name of Allardia proposed by Mr. Decaisne in 1844.1]

Allardia

Waldheimia

Bentham & Hooker (1862-83), vol. 2. part 1, p. 424 (1873), synonymize Waldheimia, described in Bulletin de la Société impériale des naturalistes de Moscou, 1842, p. 125 and named to honour Gotthelf Fischer von Waldheim, a founder of the Moscow society, with Allardia, described by Decaisne in the botanical part of vol. 4 of Jacquemont (1841-44), p. 87. Although vol. 4 is dated 1844, TL2 reports that the work came out in 80 parts and that it has been suggested that pp. 1-88 of the botanical part was published in 1841; see Brummitt (2007), p. 592, for a summary of the arguments.
