Melbourne

6/6/77.

The President of the Institute of Sciences, Letters and Arts, Venice.

I was extremely flattered to receive a communication from the venerable and learned Lord Zanardini, informing me that the honour has been done me of electing me a corresponding member of the Royal Institute of Sciences, Letters and Arts of Venice.1

This unexpected mark of honour and encouragement affected me the more profoundly since until then it had not fallen to my lot to communicate with your renowned Institution.

In offering you my sincere thanks, I have the honour of assuring you that I shall have the greatest pleasure in co-operating with the Institute in its scientific pursuits, as much as it will be possible for me here to do so; and now I take the opportunity of offering you for the library of the Institute some of the works I have published in recent years.

With deep respect, Mr President, I have the honour of being

Yours sincerely,

Baron Ferd. von Mueller

Doctor of medicine, Doctor of science. 2
