To the Secretary of the Education Department.

Sir

In following up a former communication1 I have the honor to point out, that to obtain the needful copies of the schoolbook on native plants2 for the State-schools it is required, that a requisition from your Department should be submitted to the Gov. Printer's Office.3

I have the honor to be

your obedient

On 5 October 1877 M's file was minuted: 'Messrs McCarron Bird & Co have been paid for the 1650 copies of Baron von Mullers work "Select Plants" which have been received by this Dept. The money came from the vote "Botanist's Dept — The 1500 copies of Baron Von Mullers school book on "Native Plants" which this Dept is about to order from the Government Printer are to be charged to the same vote: viz. Government Botanist'. Other notes on the file indicate that a copy of each book was to be sent to the Head Teacher of each State School in the colony.
