Wd Dr Mueller kindly examine the accompanying (by Parcel Post) Specimen of "a Creeper "vine, growing luxuriantly on spot's in the Palmer River" at Maytown. Mr M. Haynes (Barrister at Law) fellow-passenger with Dr Mueller from Melbourne as far as Eden (on the Drs way to botanise the Maneroo District2 in 1860) makes the request, that Dr M. wd communicate with him; & state, if the "pollen" or powder, (shaken by Mr H. from the pod; by squeezing, & dusting) is of any medical or other use; as Mr H. has found it a most powerfully persistent "bitter" to the tongue.

I enclose also branch of "thick foliaged "stunted" "Tree" same "habitat". affording grand "shade" by "dark rifle-green" front of leaf (& called by "Bushmen" from its valuelessness, "shitten wood"). Specimens enclosed from three (3) different localities here. MH.

MS annotation by M, Haynes' writing being unclear: 'QL'.
i.e. Monaro District, NSW. See M to W. Hooker, 17 September 1860 (in this edition as 60-09-17a), and M to R. Heales, 10 January 1861.
