In looking at your letter of the 16. Febr,1 dear Mr Bailey, I see that the Dendrobium Kennedyi is a S. S. Isl.2 species, not therefore one from Queensland. Hence I cannot describe it in the fragmenta, but will do so in the next number of the Papuan plants.3 I must find a Q.L. plant, to name in honor of his Excellency.4

Can you not manage to go in the salubrious season once more to the north?
Dendrobium Kennedyi
Letter not found.
South Sea Island.
The next part of M’s Papuan plants was not issued until 1885 (B85.06.03); Dendrobium cincinnatum is the only Orchid species in that part listed as provided by Bailey, and it had been described by M in B85.05.01 from a cultivated specimen sourced from 'South Eastern New Guinea'. The Dendrobium kennedyi listed in IPNI was described in 1921. The name in this letter is presumably a name suggested by Bailey in the letter not found, but it might not have been what M described as D. cincinnatum.
Presumably Sir Arthur Kennedy, Governor of Qld, 1877-83; M named Cycas kennedyana in his honour in B82.03.01, p. 85.
