Sir,

I have the honor to inform you, that I am required to proceed with the Commissioners to enquire into the Wattle question for the next two weeks in Gippsland, and that accordingly I shall start early to morrow.1 Any communications will reach me in Gippsland, as I shall be able to obtain my letters from time to time during the journey.2

The Commissioners departed by train 'at daybreak', made a brief examination of some tracts of bushland at Warragul, and arrived at Sale about midday (Age, 1 April, 1878, p. 3).
