From Ferdinand von Mueller to Frederick Bailey   14 Apr 1878

14/4/78.

This day, dear Mr Bailey, I got your little package.

The supposed Caesia is Arthropodium paniculatum, RBr, a species not previously found in Q.L.1

As regards the grasses, it will be best to judge for yourself, when you get the copy of vol. VII in a few months.2 You can then adopt the specific & generic limitations either of Mr Bentham or myself. Bentham has been very liberal, too much so, in the admission of both genera & species, & his disposition of the genera is to a great measure artificial but not natural, genera of the closest alliance being often placed far apart into different tribes

Regardfully

Ferd. von Mueller

Arthropodium paniculatum

Caesia

Qld.

Bentham (1863-78), vol. 7, p 449-670.
