From Ferdinand von Mueller to William Odgers   16 May 1878

Melbourne,

16/5/78.

W .H. Odgers Esqr.

Undersecretary.

Sir,

In reply to your telegram just received1 I have the honor to inform you, that out of the very small votes granted to the Gov. Botanists Department for this year no savings could possibly be effected, indeed the sums available not even being sufficient to carry on the lithographic work for the Eucalyptus Atlas,2 nor the Laboratory operations, nor several other obligations, which I was anxious to have carried out this year.

I have the honor to be,

Sir, your obedient servant

Ferd. von Mueller,

Gov. Botanist.
