[The following report is furnished by the Timber Tree Sub-committee of the Adelaide Chamber of Manufactures:— Baron von Mueller expresses pleasure that the Chamber have taken up the important subject of forest culture with so much spirit and vigour. He is unable to comply with the request of the committee2 to supply samples of forest timber from Victoria, as only two specimens3 of eucalyptus—the redgum and the manna eucalyptus—grow near Melbourne, and the collection of sample specimens would involve a larger sacrifice of time and money than he can afford. He says he is anxious to extend his Eucalyptus Atlas4 to the species of the Northern Territory, but fears that unless he receives further substantial help from beyond Victoria he must abandon his idea.5]
