I was particularly pleased to see the figure of Villarsia capitata in your splendid Bot. Mag.2

This reminds of years passed bye - of hope, when I had chances to add to the plants of Horticulture abroad far better than now.3

 
 

Villarsia capitata

The addressee is attributed on the basis of the editorship of the Botanical magazine at this date; the fragment is dated assuming that the earliest probable date the relevant part of the Botanical magazine could have arrived in Melbourne is mid to late June 1879.
Villarsia capitata was illustrated in the Botanical magazine, plate 6420, in the part dated 1 April 1879. The accompanying notes state: 'For the seeds of this pretty plant, the Royal Gardens are indebted to Baron von Mueller'.
The sheet is annotated on the back in pencil: 38 | 81 | 91 | 93.
