From Ferdinand von Mueller to John Shillinglaw   3 July 1879

3/7/79.

The autogram, dear Mr Shillinglaw, from the famous Flinders is a real treasure, which my Italian Lady-friend1 will greatly value, if really I dare to deprive you of it. The photogram of the family miniature is also very important and will with your permission be retained, if you have several copies.2

I think, that I shall have no difficulty in securing for you the honorary or corresponding membership of the Royal Geographic Society,3 if you will send me a copy of your work on the early explorations about Port Phillip,4 to accompany my letter to an influential friend in Italy.5

Regardfully your

Ferd. von Mueller.
