To Edward Ramsay   24 July 1879

24./7./79.

The palm-fruits sent by you, dear Mr Ramsay, are seemingly those of a Kentia, and distinct from those of K. acuminata, so far as I can see, but as not even the remnants of a calyx are left with these fruits, I must ask you for additional material. Can you not procure leaves & flowers, and give me some information concerning the habit & hight of this palm. I will be happy to name it after you.1 It seems extraordinary, that Armstrong, who stayed on the expense of Kew Garden for several years at Port Essington, never secured material of this palm for description.

A collection of Manna with flowering & fruiting branches of the trees, on which it occurs, would be very acceptable. I never saw Manna on any other species than E. viminalis, and never exuding from the stem

I have soon to work on palms again; so additional material of this new one will be welcome.

Regardfully your

Ferd. von Mueller.

Can you kindly ascertain at your L.S.,2 which of my works are there, as I wish to make a sending in return for your society's sending to me (of its publications)

Can the volumes of your entomologi[c] Society be purchase[d] if so, at what pric[e.]3

Eucalyptus viminalis

Kentia acuminata

M did not name a Kentia after Ramsay.
