From Ferdinand von Mueller to John Shillinglaw   11 Nov 1879

11/11/79

It is now more than 20 years ago, dear Mr Shillinglaw, that the notice of Rob Brown occurred in the Gardeners chronicle from Sir Joseph Hooker, indeed it was in 1858.1 If after so long a time I can find the number, I will send it to you. As you have the splendid lithogram of R Brown the poor little woodcut2 seems to me of no earthly use to you; but I can supplement the biographic notes of Hooker.

Regardfully your

Ferd. von Mueller.

The authors of the two obituaries for Robert Brown (1773-1858) in the Gardeners' chronicle of 1858, the details of which follow, are not identified. The editor of the journal at the time was John Lindley.
