To Joseph Hooker   31 December 1879

Newyears eve

1879

Kindly tell me, dear Sir Joseph, to whom I must send my condolation at the sad death of the venerable Miers. The funeral notice is sent adressed by a Lady’s Hand.1

He seems to have worked away til the age of 90!, what (I believe) no other Botanist has ever done! Hampe however at 84 works still on Mosses! an2 Chevreul at 953 holds still full & regular lectures in Paris!

With best felicitations to the new year

Ferd von Mueller
