From Ferdinand von Mueller to Ernst Behm   20 Jan 1880

20/1/80.

It would be desirable, highly esteemed Professor, that the regions of shrubby eucalypts of the desert not be designated with the name Eucalyptus dumosa on geographic maps in the future. In the course of my researches it happens that E. dumosa is only a variety of the earlier described E. incrassata; in addition, that the last named species (including E. dumosa) is not the only one that forms the so-called Mallee Scrub, but that E. oleosa, E. gracilis, E. uncinata and some other species are often mixed with E. incrassata, and even sometimes predominate over the latter.

On the same principle, one could designate Acacia aneura as the single species of Mulga Scrub, whereas usually other acacias are abundantly mixed in with the former in the Mulga scrub.
