An opportunity was given, noble Friend, to obtain 28 mostly larger fishes from New Zealand, packed in salt, and indeed cheaply (for £4/4/-) — I have therefore secured them for your museum, in part also to make a first attempt at sending in chloride of sodium; if this pleases you, the procurement of fishes would be made very much easier. At any rate they should be useful for skeletons. The names, admittedly partly in barbarous Latin, are noted on the enclosed page1 and the consignment will be sent to you soon.
