To Joseph Hooker1    2 April 1880

2/4/80

Herewith, dear Sir Joseph, I beg to send you a specimen of an Acrostichum, which Mr F. M. Bailey discovered at Trinity Bay some years ago. I have only this one specimen and he has only one other. Would you or Mr Bakerbe so good to compare it with Extra-Australian species, and let me know the result. Should it be new, you may keep then the specimen, but send me a diagnosis.

Regardfully your

Ferd. von Mueller.

Acrostichum

MS annotation by Hooker: 'A. Baileyi F.M. [&] Baker sent May 14/80.'

There is no Acrostichum baileyi or any other Acrostichum with a species epithet honouring Bailey listed in IPNI. However, A. neglectum (Bailey [1881a], p. 32-3) was collected at Trinity Bay in 1877, and is likely to be the species referred to in this letter.
