Hiermit sende ich Ihnen, lieber Herr Holtze, die Namen Ihrer eben angekommenen Pflanzen. In manchen Fällen, wenn eine Gattung viele Arten enthält, kann man nicht immer leicht die Art bestimmen ohne viel Aufwand von Zeit. Ich untersuche solche Pflanzen von Zeit zu Zeit im Zusammenhang, und kann dann den Species Namen nachliefern.

Ich möchte Sie bitten auch auf Pilze zu achten, u. namentlich mir gütig alle dort vorkommenden Palmen in allen Blüthen- u Frucht-Stadien zukommen zu lassen. Auch liegt mir sehr an Blüthen des dortigen Bambus. Es kommt wahrscheinlich auch bei Ihnen ein Schilfrohr vor, ähnlich dem der deutschen Gräben, aber immergrün.

Herewith I am sending you, dear Mr Holtze, the names of your just arrived plants. In many cases, where a genus contains many species, it is not always easy to identify the species without expending a great deal of time. I examine such plants from time to time in conjunction and can then supply the species name later on.

I would like to ask you to watch out for fungi also, and particularly to let me have all the palms occurring there in all stages of flower and fruit. Also, flowers of the local bamboos there are very important to me. You probably also have a reed occurring there, similar to that found in ditches in Germany, but evergreen.
