From Patrick O'Shanesy to Ferdinand von Mueller   22 Apr 1880

Emerald1 April 22/80

Dear Baron Mueller

I have much pleasure in sending you a fragment of a new Eucalyptus (E. Curreyana2) which I have found in the sandstone ranges in the neighbourhood of Stanwell.3 It has the general appearance of E. crebra, but the venation of the leaves is different, and the bark is brown, soft, fibrous and lamellar. I have not seen the flowers. The fresh luxurient shoots smell like the 'scented gum' altho it is scarcely perceptible in the dry state.

I am sorry I have not as yet been able to procure the samples of the woods you asked for although I have been promised them long ago.4

Yours faithfully

P. A. O'Shanesy
