"Native Poplar" = Codonocarpus cotinifolius F.v.M.

974. Brachycome pachyptera, Turczaninow

979 Brachycome collina Bentham

972 Cyrtostylis reniformis R Brown

978 Geococcus pusillus Drummond & Harvey

973 Diuris palustris Lindley

980 Capsella? Menckea? zu jung

976 Brachycome (ganz jung)

981 Cheilanthes (Notochlaena) distans, Al. Braun

977. Lepidium ruderale, L

Ohne Nummer Caladenia deformis R Brown

Eucalyptus gracilis, dear Mr Tepper, varies, I do not think that you can make two species out of it, but will compare further specimens from you.

The figures "of the evolution"1 have amused me. I envy no one his supposed descent from the apes, and when Darwin himself sent me his work, when it was published nearly 20 years ago,2 I immediately informed him and other savants, that I could not support his (only somewhat enlarged Lamarckian) idea.

You have discovered a new fungus, which Pastor Kalchbrenner named after me; I would like to have dedicated it to you, when I had the diagnosis printed for the new number of the Fragmenta, but Kalchbrenner wrote to me that the Academy of Hungary would soon print his paper in which this fungus also occurred,3 so that I could not undertake a name change. You are by the way named as discover and compensated for the loss in the same number by Schoenus tepperi.4

Previously there was no species known from Australia of the very small genus Battarrea.

Best greetings

Your

Ferd. von Mueller.

957. Dodonaeain the first fruit state, an unkown form to me, yet perhaps only some kind of variety. The ripe fruit will show it.

"Native Poplar" = Codonocarpus cotinifolius F.v.M.

979 Brachycome collina Bentham

972 Cyrtostylis reniformis R Brown

978 Geococcus pusillus Drummond & Harvey

973 Diuris palustrisLindley

980 Capsella? Menckea? too young

975. I would like to have more of this, particularly also ripe fruit later, since this may be the fully developed plant of Geococcus. One needs more and more specimens for analysis. By the way it looks like Cardamine laciniata.

976 Brachycome (quite young)

981 Cheilanthes (Notochlaena) distans Al. Braun

In B80.08.03, p. 106, M described Schoenus tepperi and also Battarrea Muelleri, the latter of which he attributed to 'Kalchbr. in litteris', while Tepper was recorded as the discoverer.
