From Thomas Stephens to Ferdinand von Mueller   17 Nov 1880

TASMANIAN CLUB1

My dear Baron Von Mueller

Io Paean!2 Eucalyptus Cordata is found at last. Shortly after the date of my last letter3 I received from Recherche Bay4 a branchlet of a young Eucalyptus (part of which I I5 enclose), and this was followed by a letter from the finder stating that there was no blossom or any sign of fruit on any of the trees near. I set him to work again, but in the mean time another man has been at work, and has today brought up specimens with the fruit well developed.

I am only in town for a few hours, and shall not be able to get all particulars about locality, &c, for some little time; but Mr Roblin6 will send you this last contribution, and the getting the blossom will only be a question of time.

I am

very truly your's

T. Stephens

P.S. The last specimen is from the Huon district, & probably within reach.
