To Joseph Hooker   16 January 1881

16/1/81.1

Am not quite sure, dear Sir Joseph, whether I already wrote to you with a view of consulting you on what Bentham calls Eucal. stricta. He placed it with the Micrantherae.2 Could any one of your subordinates (if you have no leisure yourself) kindly ascertain whether it really belongs to that section. I am almost convinced, that it belongs to the Renanthereae, as pointed out in my Atlas under E. stellulata.3

Regardfully your

Ferd. von Mueller.

Either I have or have not rightly identified E. stricta, which species I have now lithographed for a new decade,4 but will hold it back til I hear of you.5

Eucalyptus stellulata

Eucalyptus stricta

MS annotation by Hooker: 'March 4/81 And [Bth] with flowers of E. stricta'.

M's discussion of E. stricta appeared in Eucalyptographia, Decade 10 (B84.13.19).
