13/3/81.
It was my intention, dear Mr Gibbes, to share in the festival of the opening of the Arts Academy yesterday,1 but sudden duties arose in connection with the international exhibition in my Department, and I was thus deprived of the pleasure, to attend at the Ceremony. Will you kindly express to the Council of the Academy my best thanks for the honor, done me in inviting me, and also convey my hope, to have at some future occasion the privilege of visiting your noble institution.
Regardfully your
Ferd. von Mueller
