From Henry Sheffield   6 April 1881

April 6th [18]81

Sir,

I am requested by the Trustees to inform you that your letter to Professor Irving1 was laid before them and that the whole of Rothschild's Books have been purchased, But those of Fischer have been declined as being too expensive.2

I have the honor to be

Sir

Your obedient Servant

Henry Sheffield

Librarian

To Baron F. Von Mueller

Government Botanist

Melbourne

See M to M. Irving, 27 March 1881.
These decisions were taken at the Library Committee's meeting on 4 April 1881; see State Library of Victoria, Trustees of the Public Library, Gallery and Museum, Minutes, vol. 13a (MSF12855). So far as the Fischer collection was concerned, it appears that the committee had a change of heart, because it resolved at its meeting on 12 April to offer £125 for this collection. See also R. Curtis to M, 13 April 1881.
