To James Kirkland1    October 1881

[A letter was received from Baron von Mueller regretting that he was unable to comply with the request of the Society in re making a donation of his works for the Library:2 and suggesting the advisability of the Society applying to the Hon J. M. Grant — Chief Secretary as the most likely source of getting the supply. He however expressed his pleasure in being able to forward two works issued by him as a private speculation. The books were "Index Perfectus Ad. Caroli Linnæi Species Plantarum." and "The Organic Constituents of Plants and Vegetable Substances."3]
