Bauhinia glaucescens

In M to J. Hooker, 24 July 1882, in a general comment on his volatile relationship with Bailey, M remarked 'he is assiduous, and I have aroused in him a spirit for scientific distinction & I help him on still. So only lately I described under our united authority a Bauhinia, closely allied to B. Malabarica, which he thought might be B. glaucescens (a Central American spec)'.

MS found with specimen (MEL 69717) of Bauhinia gilesii named by M and Bailey jointly for Alfred Giles (B82.07.04, p. 151). Approximately dated on the basis of the published description that was based on the specimen with which this item was found. The sheet has M's specimen label: 'Bauhinia Gilesii F.V.M. Near Port Darwin Alfr. Giles'.
