To Joseph Hooker   27 February 1882

27/2/82.

I feel, sure, dear Sir Joseph, that the experiment initiated by me to send living plants from K.G. Sound1 to Kew in close cases during the cool season will result in manyfold successes.2

You will be gratified to hear that I have secured the Sonderian collections by purchase on behalf of the Victorian Government.3 I bought the Glumaceae many years ago already;4 but one great gem of the collection, as you know, the South African plants, went to Stockholm.5 My negotiations with my poor departed friend concerning his collections commenced more than 20 years ago.

Regardfully your

Ferd. von Mueller
