[The Hon. W. Macleay read a letter from Baron Ferd Von Mueller, of Victoria, K.C.M.G., expressing his sympathy with the society in the loss sustained in the late disastrous fire.1]
A fire on 22 September 1882 completely destroyed the 'Garden Palace', the 'temporary' building erected for the Sydney International Exhibition of 1879-80 that was subsequently used to house a variety of government offices and other facilities, including the office and museum of the Linnean Society of New South Wales (Sydney morning herald, 23 September 1882, p. 8).
Letter not found. The text given here is from a report of the special general meeting of the Linnean Society of New South Wales on 27 September 1882 (Sydney morning herald, 28 September 1882, p. 8).
