To Joseph Hooker   1 January 1883

New years morn

1883.

I feel, dear Sir Joseph, that I cannot more worthily commence my writing in the new annual space of time, than by offering my felicitation to a few of the most illustrious friends, with whom I have the privilege to be in scientific relation. May the new year be to you and your whole family one of unbroken happiness, and may providence grant you again and for years to come again and again strength and health for the furtherance of your great labors.

Regardfully ever yours

Ferd. von Mueller.
