My dear Baron
I am now in possession of some valuable material for working out the Macrozamias indigenous to New South Wales, but until Mr Betche returns from the country, whither he has been for the last month in search of Macrozamias, I shall not have all the specimens which he has collected, for examination. In the meantime it is to my mind certain, that the old spiralis of Brown & Cunningham,1 Dennisoni of you and myself2 Corallipes of Gardens,3 and a species undescribed allied to the last of which diplomera is a variety,4 and that called cylindrica5 found on the high grounds of the Richmond and the Tweed, may be regarded as all distinct from each other, and in fact to represent all the species of the Genus in this colony — But more on this subject when Mr Betche returns
Your young German friend Siegert is likely to obtain employment in this quarter — as yet nothing can be decided regarding him. With sincere regards I remain
Faithfully yours
Charles Moore
Baron Von Mueller K.C.M.G.
P.S Enclosed is a portion of a form of diplomera just received from Betche
Macrozamia corallipes
Macrozamia cylindrica
Macrozamia Dennisoni
Macrozamia sp. var diplomera
Macrozamia spiralis
Zamia spiralis was noted in R. Brown (1810), p. 348; the reason for the mention of Alan Cunningham has not been determined.
Macrozamia Denisonii was described under the joint authority of M and Moore in B58.06.01, p. 41.
Macrozamia corallipes was described in J. Hooker (1865-1904), vol. 98, t. 5943.
Presumably a reference to Encephalartos spiralis var diplomera described in B66.10.01, p. 172, from a specimen collected by Moore.
Presumably a reference to Macrozamia cylindrica, described as distinct in Moore (1884a), p. 119.
MS found with a specimen of Macrozamia diplomera (MEL 260276). MS is accompanied by two handwritten foolscap pages of 'Remarks on various varieties of Macrozamia' by E. Betche.
