From Ferdinand von Mueller to Ralph Tate   13 May 1883

13/5/83

The enclosed plant, dear Prof Tate, was one of the critical species, laid aside by me for careful study. I find it a second Eriochlamys,1 and it shows, that I was justified to restore that genus to Angiantheae. The description is gone to the May Number of the Chemist;2 and I was pressed to furnish an article for the number and had no other plant at hand, on which I could write. Otherwise it would have gone to the R.S. of S.A.3

Regardfully your

Ferd von Mueller.

When the 9th Decade of the Eucalyptography is out, on which I am now engaged,4 I will turn to your N. plants.5

Angiantheae

Eriochlamys

Eriochlamys (E. behrii) had been erected in Sonder (1852a), under the joint authority of Sonder and M.

Specimens collected by Tate in NT during his visit with a SA parliamentary delegation in early 1882; see Sowden (1882). In M to R. Tate, 2 May 1882 (in this edition as 82-05-02a), M suggested that Tate send a complete series of the specimens collected on that trip.
