M's donations were registered as numbers 2115-2121 on 18 August 1883 (MRS 86 donation book, 1882-3, Archives of the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences) and were reported at the meeting of the Committee of Management on 11 September 1883 (MRS 2/1 minute books of the Committee of Management of the Technological, Industrial and Sanitary Museum 1882-9, Archives of the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences). These items are probaby those described as 'Samples of articles made from Victorian woods' in the Register of Donors, p. 224 ( MRS 88, Register of donors, Powerhouse Museum, Sydney). After recording the receipt of these items, the Committee of Management resolved ' to request Baron Mueller to be good enough to supply rectangular slabs of wood, this form being considered the most suitable for the present objects of the Museum'. M, however, offered to supply wood samples in the form of 'books' (M to J. Maiden, 3 October 1883), which were eventually supplied (J. Maiden to M, 31 July 1884 [in this edition as 84–07-31b]).
