Melbourne,
4. Oct.1883.
To the honorable Malcolm Fraser, C.M.G.,
Colonial Secretary of Western Australia.
I feel much indebted to you, dear Mr Fraser, for sending the 10 excellent samples of W.A. Woods, which I will have done up in book form to supplement an imitation-library of wood-books sent to the Calcutta Exhibition.1
I am also beholden to you for the 6 additional copies of the W.A. Forest report,2 which I shall utilize in the interest of your colony. As there will be for many years to come often local calls for this document, I shall under no circumstances tax in this respect your kindness any more
Regardfully your
Ferd. von Mueller.
The Report on the woodsamples I will also send to Calcutta. I presume, you sent the Forest-Report directly and officially yourself.3
