From Ferdinand von Mueller to Ralph Tate   29 Nov 1883

Mt Macedon,1 29/11/83

This, dear Prof. Tate, I write from a hilly region, to which I went a few days ago, to endeavour shaking off this dreadful cough. Letters are sent up to me here, and so I had the pleasure of receiving yours from Kangaroo-Island,2 and to hear of your success there. Trithuria, sent by you is the veritable plant. It is monotypic. Your large additions to the records of K. Isl. plants, will render the island very interesting phytogeographically and does you infinite credit. — The Stipa = S. teretifolia. The Dampiera is what you made it, namely D. lanceolata. As regards the Schoenus, I do not like to offer a positive opinion, until I return to Melbourne, which will likely be next week; in such a critic genus, the actual specimens ought to be compared. Better no name, than a doubtful or even wrong one. It is pleasing to look forward to your able explorations in the W. of Kang. Isl. for the future.

With regardful remembrance

your

Ferd von Mueller

I had to day a kind letter from Sir Henry Barkly, and in replying from here will again urge your election.3
