From Ferdinand von Mueller to Maurice Holtze   1 Dec 1883

1/12/83.

With the last mail, dear Mr Holtze, I was asked by Prof. Caspary, the monographer of the Nymphaeaceae, to send him more Australian material.1 He would like the flowers and ripe fruits of our 2 or 3 species, cut open lengthwise for them to dry quickly and not to rot. Would you also give us your kind assistance in this matter?

Always yours

Ferd. von Mueller

Do you already have Arachis hypogaea?2 If not, I could send you fresh seeds.

In the 1891 edition of Select extra-tropical plants (B91.13.10), M listed for the first time under Arachis hypogaea (Peanut): 'Mr Holtze harvested at Port Darwin 27 cwt. from an acre, the product being saleable at £20 per ton there.'
