To Thomas Wilson   21 April 1884

The proposed recipients of the 9th Decade1 are largely but not entirely the same as those of the eighth, as about one fifth of the entries in the present list are new; death carries off annually some correspondents; new ones and new Societies arise; some get into arrear with their own sendings; some are interested more in the species of one decade than those of others; and one hundred copies would not suffice to supply all those, who might perhaps be entitled for consideration. I have therefore used my best discretion each time in the distribution, when a part of the work appeared. — As the supplement of the "Census of Australian plants"2 consists only of half a sheet of print and is therefore not costly, perhaps the hon. the Premier will kindly allow that also "on behalf of the Vict. Government" a copy goes with each of the 9th Decade.3

On 25 April 1884 the Secretary to the Premier, E. Thomas, responded: 'Approved by the Premier and returned to the Under Secretary'. M was duly informed of the Premier's decision and on 29 April returned the file 'with best thanks for approval'.
