From Joseph Hooker   31 December 1884

Dec 31 /84

Dear Baron von Mueller

I send you the best scraps we can afford of the Myoporum & Eremophila.1 There are but 3 flowers on the latter & one was dissected.

Baker says that your Hymenophyllum Reidii 2 is = H. javanicum, Spr3

With all the best wishes of the season

Most sincerely yr

J D Hooker.

P.S. I do not know what is doing about a Memorial to Bentham.4 Masters5 talked of a copy of the Linn. Soc. Portrait for Kew. In which case it would not be etiquette that the Kew Staff joined — we being the recipients as we were the dispensers of his benefits.

There are still a few copies of Gen. Plant6 at Herbm at £6.15.4 Cash. Unfortunately Part i is almost out of print & I fear I shall have to reprint it to complete the remaining copies of other parts.

Myoporum

Eremophila

Hymenophyllum Reidii

Hymenophyllum javanicum

See M to J. Hooker, 31 October 1884, in which M asked Hooker if Kew could spare him leaf, flower and fruit of Myoporum brevipes and Eremophila leucophylla.
Presumably M’s herbarium name on the specimen sent to Kew.
Identified in an undated memorandum [by D. Oliver?], Kew Correspondence, Australia, Mueller. 1882-1890. f. 125: ‘F. v. Mueller’s Hymenophyllum Reidii, [FM] vide JGB = H. javanicum [Spng]’
See M to J. Hooker, 6 November 1884.
