We the undersigned beg to propose:

for the Fellowship of the Linnean Society, to which he is well entitled by his zealous working in Australian Entomology and Botany. Mr French is Secretary of the Field Naturalists Club of Victoria.

The top of a standard form of recommendation has been pasted to the top of the MS sheet, and the Linnean Society coat of arms is pasted to the left of the signatures, both cut from a printed certificate.

M wrote the final paragraph at the bottom of the sheet. The entomologist Francis Pascoe presumably signed after the letter was received at the Society.

The file includes the undated obligation form signed by French, undertaking to pay the fees while he remained a member.
