To John Baker   8 December 1885

8/12/85

I am greatly beholden to you, dear Mr Baker, for sending me a copy of your masterly elaboration of the Selaginellae. What an enormous amount of work, – 312 sp.! to define accurately.1

The copy, which reached me, is dedicated to Dr Trimen, so doubtless he has mine, and we will have to interchange.2

New Guinea must give us additional material of this genus; whatever I may get thus far, shall also be handed over to you.

With every wish for your health & happiness and for the continuance of your zealous labors,

your regardful

Ferd. von Mueller.

Selaginella

Baker (1883-5).
The copy of Baker's work in the library at the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne is a re-paged printing, with index, of 22 separate articles published 1883-5. It has been bound, any wrapper it may once have had having been removed in the process. What remains bears no inscription.
