To Jean Müller   5 March 1886

Best thanks, noble friend, for the kindness, in having devoted so much of your time to my last lichens! May Divine Providence preserve your strength and health for many years yet, so that you can finish your great work to the good of all times! I happened not to carry on working on the 12th volume of the Fragmenta,1 because together with my usual official duties the work for the London Exhibition2 occupied me, especially since I also had much to do as president of the Victorian branch of the Geographical Society of Australia for many months, particularly for the promotion of exploration of New Guinea. From there many lichens certainly should also come by and by, particularly from the higher mountain regions. Have you also a geographical society there? Then I could send an offprint of the presidential address (about 20 printed pages) that I recently gave.3

Professor Lojka, who has asked me for lichens, received a trifle from me. But because you continue working so vigourously, all shall go to you again in the future, unless the most common of all from the neighbourhood are excepted.

Respectfully and wishing you all good things

Ferd. von Mueller.

At last the 76 quarto plates of the Australian Myoporinae are also printed.4 I have fourfold more species than A.D.C5 could record 40 years ago in the Prodromus.6
