To Edward Ramsay   11 May 1886

11/5/86.

The plant, sent by you, dear Dr. Ramsay, is Calodendron1 Capense, a beautiful South-African tree.

Could the trustees of the Australian Museum and the technologic Museum not make a small grants towards the fund of the geographic Society of Australasia, The expenses of the New Guinea Expedition2 are not yet cleared off, and as part of the collections went to these two institutions, surely they might give some monetary help in the difficulty which arose to the Exploration Committee financially in Sydney. I shall write on the same subject to the Museum trustees here, they having also obtained a share of the collections. A small subsidy from these Institutions would be all the more justified, as they are sure to obtain finally also some contributions, from Mr Forbes's gatherings.

Accept my best thanks for the copy of your last splendid memoir.

Regardfully

your

Ferd. von Mueller.
