To Alfred Deakin   30 June 1886

Melbourne,

30 June 1886.

The honorable Alfred Deakin, M.L.A.,

Chief Secretary.

Sir

I have the honor to solicit, that the 100 copies of the publications, usually sent out on behalf of the Government, may in the instance of the 3th supplement of the Census of Australian plants1 just ready, be distributed by my office, as it consists merely of four pages, as in so inconsiderable a case like this the process of the distribution would become much simplified

I have the honor to be,

Sir, your obedient servant

Ferd. von Mueller.2

Deakin approved M's request on 6 July 1886 and M was informed the next day. On 8 July he returned the file 'with best thanks'. However, a later distribution, in October 1886, to Victorian libraries and mechanics’ institutes was done through the Public Library; see VPRS 802/PO/10, Librarian's outward registered correspondence p. 380, VA 913 Public Library of Victoria, Public Record Office, Victoria.
