I have the honor to submit the bye-following application1 from Mr Gerh. Renner, Assistant in the Governm. Botanists Department, for a weeks leave of absence, to obtain change of air after his illness. This application is accompanied by a certificate from his medical adviser. Provision can be made for watching the bot. Museum during Mr Renner's absence.2

Deakin approved Renner's application, dating his note '14/6' in error for '14/8'. On 17 August the Under Secretary, T. Wilson, forwarded this information to M who replied on 18 August: 'Mr Renner has been informed of the hon. the Ministers kind approval.'
