To Archibald Liversidge   27 August 1886

I like to mention, dear Prof. Liversidge, that the genus Pycnarrhena (thus in Annal. & Magaz. of Nat. Hist., sec. ser. VII, 37, 1851) has become recently added to the Flora of Australia.1 This genus should head the small supplemental list, of which I sent you the manuscript.2

Entre nous I like to say, that it seems a pity, your Royal Society cannot publish with that regularity, so much desirable, — particularly as the Linnean Soc in your City3 brings always out its issues so quickly. I here suffer very much also (I speak in confidence) from the difficulty, to get my works published timely by the Gov. Printing Office, as necessarily Parliamentary work and Departmental Routine work must take precedence.

Our Roy. Soc has a grant annually, (I think it is £200) — that enables it to have its printing done in private Establishments; and in reality it is not an extra tax on the public treasury, as at the Gov. Printing Offices anywhere the work done entails always a distinct additional expenditure.

I hope, that the Ardisia will not fall early in the hands of a phytographer abroad to be redescribed elsewhere.4

With regardful remembrance your

Ferd. von Mueller

That is, additions to the MS of B87.13.03: the genus, misprinted as Pyenarrhena, heads the article, and the MS list (not found) must therefore have been received between the paper being read on 7 July 1886 and being sent to print.
