To William Woolls   13 September 1886

13/9/86.

The Melaleuca, of which you just sent the fruit, dear Dr Woolls, has nothing to do with M. Leucadendron. It is near M. parviflora Lindl, which may extend round to Port Jackson1 naturally, though rare there.

Unfortunately I have mislaid the only flowering specimen; so I must beg of you, to write a few lines to Mr Dean,2 asking him to post me a flowering specimen, also to give an account of the particular locality of growth, height of plant bark &c. I will then give the plant its exact systematic place.

Trusting you & your kind Lady are enjoying your mountain travels, I remain regardfully
