To John Shillinglaw1    5 October 1886

5/10/86

Let me thank you, dear Mr Shillinglaw, for your circumspect kindness in sending me the copy of Capt. Musgrave's diary.2 I read it at the time in a periodical, but never had a book-copy myself; now that the antarctic interests commence to be revived, I will read this book, so thoughtfully edited by you, with care, before I send it off to Capt Armstrong. Are copies anywhere purchasable?3 I should like very much to have a short conversation with you, prior to your final R. Comm. Report4 is printed.

Regardfully your

Ferd. von Mueller

MS annotations by Shillinglaw: 'Rec 5.X.86' and 'Answed 7.X.86'. Letter not found.
