To Odoardo Beccari 1    2 December 1886

2/12/86

My best thank is due to you, dear Dr Beccari, for the kind sending of the again excellent new fasc. of the Malesia (III, ii)2, containing a vast mass of new information. Individual Life is too short for science! My own worldly task will soon be done, and I shall thus not see the end or much yet of what the young generation, to which you also belong, will yet achieve for the Goddess Flora. I hope to bring her still (in my bid3 of remaining ear[th]ly4 career) a wreath of Papuan flowers, particularly from alpine heights!

Kindly tell me, whether you got the nice collection of 650 spec. of dried plants forwarded to you in 1885 through the agency of Tate’s Melbourne Carrier-Firm.5 A few choice palms were sent by post; — more shall follow; but I must first know, whether the transit through Mr Tate’s Agency (with free delivery) can be relied on.

With regardful remembrance your

Ferd. von Mueller.

Best salutation to the excellent Chevalier D’Albertis.6
