We ought to congratulate ourselves, dear Mr Macdonald, to the high honor, which our Society has attained through the grace of her Majesty.1 It was very good of you, to take action on this happy event in your usual resolute way. I will be happy, to attend at the meeting on Monday at you[r] hospitable house. You will likely have received the papers from the townclerk of Collingwood, which may augment our iss[ue] of antarctic Documen[ts] through the R.S.2

The Geographical Society of Australasia was granted the prefix 'Royal' in a letter dated 15 October 1886.
The progress report of the Royal Society of Victoria's Antarctic Committee, published in Trans & Proc. Roy Soc. Vic, 23 (1886), 304-5, was accompanied by a number of documents including a letter from Captain D. Gray, Peterhead, Scotland, to W. R. Buchanan, Council Chambers, Collingwood, on the prospects of establishing a viable fishing industry in Antarctic waters.
