Mir schien es am Besten, geehrter Herr Tepper, dass die Beschreibung Ihrer niedlichen Candollea noch in diesem Jahre erscheinen sollte, damit nicht etwa noch sonst Jemand die Art im selben Jahre beschriebe. Selbstverständlich kann ja die Beschreibung in den Veröffentlichungen der dortigen R.S wiederholt werden, mit nachträglichen Notizen von Ihnen.

Ich werde Alph de Candolle, der sich den Achtziger nähert, aber von dem ich eben wieder einen wohlgemuthen Brief habe, so wie von dem noch älteren Owen, die Käng. Insel Candollea in einem Ex senden. Ich bin recht bedrängt im Departement, da ich gewissermassen gezwungen bin, den "Key" bald zu vollenden. Wenn ich also einige Ihrer Pflanzen nicht gleich zum Abschluss bringe, so wissen Sie den Grund. Etwas sehr Merkwürdiges, wie die Candollea, werde ich aber immer gleich vornehmen.

It seems best to me, esteemed Mr Tepper, that the description of your pretty Candollea should still be published in this year, so that no one else otherwise describes the species in the same year.² Of course the description can indeed be repeated in the publications of the R. S. there,³ with additional notes from you.

I will send a specimen of the Kang. Island⁴ Candollea to Alph. de Candolle, who is approaching his eighties, but from whom I just have a cheerful letter again, as well as from the even older Owen.⁵ I am very pressed in the department, since to some extent I am forced to complete the "Key" soon.⁶ Therefore if I do not finish some of your plants immediately, you know the reason. However, anything very noteworthy, such as the Candollea, I will always immediately attend to.
