After initially accepting Bailey’s identification of the species, M had second thoughts and decided it was a new species that he described in B88.07.03 as A, baileyana; see M to Bailey, 22 November 1887 and M to W. Thiselton-Dyer, 9 April 1888. The specimen sheet includes M’s herbarium label: ‘Acacia Baileyana F.v.M. | Cultiv. In Bowen’s Park Brisbane. | F. M. Bailey’.
